A little about me

Hi I'm Birdie, I'm an artist, nature adorer, light devotee, and perhaps an often too soft hearted a human. My work is inspired and flows from my adoration of nature, turning seasons, history, and beauty. Drawing from natural shapes and colors as well as the long beautiful stories of quilt and print making.

I'm native to southern Appalachia, a place I love, and though I enjoy traveling, (especially when doing the markets I'm privileged to be a part of all over southern Appalachia) its always a relief to be back cozy at home. Stories of a introverted extrovert.

I began learning to sew in 2021, after a bit of a journey from leaving my slightly tortured relationship with a career as a professional baker, which I still sometimes miss, see tortured. Sewing and block print making happened upon me when I needed it after years of unknowable resistance. Slowly as I've gained more knowledge and began developing my own work and style The Dawn Bird Handmade came to be. A place where I can let my imagination run wild, seeking the limits of my always leaning abilities. My thought is if I can add any amount of beauty and usefulness to the world, I believe I will feel satisfied I've lived a good life.

It is a deeply lucky thing to be doing this hard and overflowingly fulfilling thing, it's also such delight in getting to share it.
